One Generation

On Mother’s Day we’re taking time to see God’s plan for each generation to make disciples who will bring the Good News of Jesus to the next generation. This is a huge responsibility, and also a great joy!

Exodus 1:6-8 (NLT) 6  In time, Joseph and all of his brothers died, ending that entire generation. 7  But their descendants, the Israelites, had many children and grandchildren. In fact, they multiplied so greatly that they became extremely powerful and filled the land. 8  Eventually, a new king came to power in Egypt who knew nothing about Joseph or what he had done.

Psalm 51:16-17 (NLT) 16  You do not desire a sacrifice, or I would offer one. You do not want a burnt offering. 17  The sacrifice you desire is a broken spirit. You will not reject a broken and repentant heart, O God.

Then what?

Matthew 28:16-17 (NLT) 16  Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17  When they saw him, they worshiped him—but some of them doubted!

Resurrection Sunday

Matthew 28:1-10 (NLT)

1  Early on Sunday morning, as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb. 2  Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it. 3  His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow. 4  The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint. 5  Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6  He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying. 7  And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”

How Can I Pray?: Gethsemane Prayer

Mark 14:35-36 (NLT) 35  He went on a little farther and fell to the ground. He prayed that, if it were possible, the awful hour awaiting him might pass him by. 36  “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

The Kingdom Vision Part 7: Person of Peace

Luke 10:5-6 (NASB) 5  "Whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace be to this house.' 6  If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you.”

 

A Person of Peace

...will receive YOU AND the MESSAGE of JESUS.

...will SHARE the message with OTHERS.

...may not be WHO you EXPECT.

Luke 5:8-10 (NLT) 8  When Simon Peter realized what had happened, he fell to his knees before Jesus and said, “Oh, Lord, please leave me—I’m too much of a sinner to be around you.” 9  For he was awestruck by the number of fish they had caught, as were the others with him. 10  His partners, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, were also amazed. Jesus replied to Simon, “Don’t be afraid! From now on you’ll be fishing for people!”

Two key strategies the Devil uses to keep us from fishing with a net:

1. 1. 1. ISOLATION
      2. DIVISION

Questions for Reflection, Discussion, and Action:

1. How do you see the Devil’s strategies at work in your life?
2. What step comes to mind as a way to resist him?
3. As you consider the strategies of the devil, who comes to mind who might be suffering?
4. What step is God leading you to take to give that person a glimpse of the compassion, the light and the power of Christ?
5. If that person is receptive, how would you explain to them how to receive the compassion, the light and the power of Christ?
6. How would you equip them to bring the compassion, the light and the power of Christ to their circle of influence?

Kingdom Vision 4: Marks of a Disciple

Luke 14:26-27 (NASB) 26  "If anyone comes to Me, and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be My disciple. 27  "Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple.

 

Five Marks of a Disciple

1. 1. 1. A disciple has an ongoing CONNECTION with Jesus.
      2. A disciple learns and OBEYS the direction of Jesus.
      3. A disciple adopts the WORLDVIEW of Jesus.
      4. A disciple IMITATES Jesus.

And a disciple REPLICATES.
