All Things New: Grafted into a "Whatever It Takes" Attitude

THIS WEEK: All Things New: Grafted into a “Whatever It Takes” Attitude
People who are grafted into God’s family tree are to be like Jesus; He was both scandalously loving and utterly holy. Our pursuit of Christ-likeness requires us to be militant and intolerant about the sin within us, doing whatever it takes to let Him transform us and renew our minds.
KEY VERSES:
Exodus 20:3-5a (NLT) You must not have any other god but me. You must not make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the sea. You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.
See also: Matthew 5:27-30 (Jesus’ Call for Radical Amputation). 2 Kings 22-23 (King Josiah’s Idol Smash-a-Thon).
BIG IDEA: When a good thing becomes a “god” thing, that’s a bad thing.
Grafted by God (Romans 11:17-18)
People with significant DIFFERENCES finding UNITY in Christ. (Galatians 3:26-29)
The pursuit of HAPPINESS merging with the pursuit of HOLINESS. (Psalm 1)
Getting rid of IDOLS. (Exodus 20:3-5)

All Things New: Grafted into Biblical Teaching
Sunday Oct 09, 2016
Sunday Oct 09, 2016
A tree planted by a riverbank has a steady source of nourishment, so it prospers. People who are grafted into God’s family tree find nourishment in His Word, the Bible. We know this, but it’s easy to get distracted or make excuses. Let’s encourage each other as we let our roots grow deep into biblical teaching.
KEY VERSES:
Psalm 1:1-3 (NLT) 1 Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. 2 But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. 3 They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.
BIG IDEA: In the end, the pursuit of ultimate happiness merges with the pursuit of holiness.

The Way to Joy: Guest Pastor Duane Jass
Sunday Oct 02, 2016
Sunday Oct 02, 2016
As Jesus was praying just before He was arrested, (John 17:13), he prayed
“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the
world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.”
This morning we will examine 3 important truths that help us to
experience joy on the way to meet Jesus.
I. Joy is always ____________ to those who _______________.
a. Luke 1:46-49 -- -“And Mary said: My soul glorifies the Lord
and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior…..
b. Galatians 5:22-23
II. Joy is given to those who are thankful _____ all things and _________
all things.
a. Ephesians 5:20, I Thessalonians 5:16-18, James 1:2-3
b. Ann Voskamp – One Thousand Gifts – “Praying with eyes wide open
enables one to pray without ceasing.”
III. Humility is the God given soil (_________) that grows ___________
that yields ____________ ___________!!!
Hebrews 12:2, Philippians 2:6-7
a. Martin Luther – “God created the world out of nothing and as long as
we are nothing, He can create something out of us.”
b. Henry Ward Beecher – “ How much larger our lives would be if we
could become smaller in it."
c. Jesus – “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me, yet not my
will, but yours be done.” Luke 22:42
GOD IS ALWAYS GOOD AND HE ALWAYS LOVES ME!

All Things New: Grafted into Authentic Community
Sunday Sep 25, 2016
Sunday Sep 25, 2016
The world around us seems to be particularly divisive lately. People choose a side, and then curse anyone who has a different view. But when God adopts us as His children, He truly expects us to live as a family ought to. The promise is that He created us with significant differences in order to fit together perfectly, unified by Christ.
KEY VERSES:
Galatians 3:26-28 (NLT) 26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on the character of Christ, like putting on new clothes. 28 There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.
BIG IDEA: We experience Authentic Community when people with significant differences find unity in Christ.

All Things New: Grafted by God

God’s plan is to make all things new, including you! While God’s Big Renewal is a future plan, we can experience ongoing renewal every day. Are you feeling burned out? Lacking direction? Fearful of the future? Ashamed of the past? Be part of the journey to experience a New Day in Him!
KEY VERSES:
Romans 11:17 (NLT) But some of these branches from Abraham’s tree—some of the people of Israel—have been broken off. And you Gentiles, who were branches from a wild olive tree, have been grafted in. So now you also receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in the rich nourishment from the root of God’s special olive tree.
God’s Blessing can be understood as:
- God’s FAVOR. (Numbers 6:26)
- RECONCILIATION with God. (Psalm 24:5)
- EVERLASTING LIFE. (Psalm 133:3)
- Relief from SUFFERING. (Psalm 3:8)
- MEANING and PURPOSE. (2 Samuel 7:29)

KEY VERSE IN TWO TRANSLATIONS:
Proverbs 29:18 (KJV) Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Proverbs 29:18 (MSG) If people can't see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.

From Rev01ution to Renewal
Sunday Sep 04, 2016
Sunday Sep 04, 2016
KEY VERSES:
Luke 15:32 (NLT) We had to celebrate this happy day. For your brother was dead and has come back to life! He was lost, but now he is found!
BIG IDEA: We’re on a journey with Jesus to FIND and to WELCOME people who are far from CHURCH or far from GOD.
THINK ABOUT IT:
- Which of Jesus’ examples can you most relate to: the stray sheep, the neglected coin, the rebellious son, or the indignant brother?
- Is there anyone who you secretly hope gets what’s coming to them, rather than praying that they would experience God’s love and mercy?
- Write a one-sentence prayer thanking God for how He brought you into His presence.
- Write a one-sentence prayer asking God to renew your compassion for a specific person who has yet to experience His revolutionary love.

A House for God to Live In?
Sunday Aug 28, 2016
Sunday Aug 28, 2016
KEY VERSES:
1 Kings 8:27 (NLT) “But will God really live on earth? Why, even the highest heavens cannot contain you. How much less this Temple I have built!”
1 Corinthians 3:16 (NLT) Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?
BIG IDEA: While a building cannot CONTAIN GOD, it can HONOR GOD and become a gathering place where people open their hearts to GOD’S PRESENCE.
QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:
- MISSIONAL EFFECTIVENESS. How important is a building to the people we are trying to reach?
- MOMENTUM. How would a building help to relieve and re-energize volunteer staff? What new work would a building create?
- GENERATIONAL IMPACT. How could a building advance the Gospel beyond ourselves?
- FIT. What would a building look like that would advance God’s vision for this community, rather than distracting from it?
- INVESTMENT. How much money, time and prayer are you willing to invest into a building that advances God’s vision for this community?
- HONOR. Would this move at this time be honoring to God?

Sunday Aug 21, 2016
KEY TEXT: 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT) All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.
BIG IDEA: How do disciples handle the Bible? They TAKE IT IN, and they LIVE IT OUT.

About the Bible
The Bible is God’s word to all people. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth without error in the original manuscripts.
