The Advent Conspiracy - Part 2 : Spend Less
SCRIPTURE: Isaiah 55:2a (ESV) Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
BIG IDEA: If we constantly live in the “kingdom of more” we will miss out on true, lasting joy from Christ the King.
KEY QUESTION: What do we expect from our stuff?

Advent Conspiracy-Part 1: Worship Fully
Sunday Nov 08, 2015
Sunday Nov 08, 2015
‘Tis the season to share. To love. To give ourselves to something bigger than any of us. ‘Tis the season to turn our heads, tune our hearts and worship a Savior whose birth turned this world upside-down. Advent Conspiracy is a growing movement of churches seeking to refocus on the reason we celebrate Christmas: a God who gave himself to us in love. This movement is designed to make Christmas a revolutionary event by encouraging churches to Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More, and Love All. This Christmas New Day is joining the conspiracy that began with an organization called World Relief (worldrelief.org), and we're expanding it to provide relief to our brothers and sisters in Liberia through Teamwork Africa (teamworkafrica.org).
SCRIPTURE: Romans 12:1-2 (NLT) 1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Celebrating Christmas and serving other begins with Worshipping God Fully!

Rev01ution: Communion
SCRIPTURE: 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NLT) 23 For I pass on to you what I received from the Lord himself. On the night when he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread 24 and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.” 25 In the same way, he took the cup of wine after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood. Do this to remember me as often as you drink it.” 26 For every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are announcing the Lord’s death until he comes again.
BIG IDEA: The Old Covenant was started with blood sprinkled on the outside of homes (Exodus 12:22); the New Covenant is sealed with Christ inside our hearts. Both covenants are about the freedom to worship in the presence of the one true God.
QUESTIONS FOR SELF-REFLECTION:
In what area(s) of your life have you let sin control (enslave) you?
Do you believe that Christ’s sacrifice was enough to free you from the penalty of your sins?
Do you believe that when you become a slave to Christ, the Holy Spirit gives you the power live in freedom from your old patterns of behavior?
Humbly admit to God your sins, and thank Him for doing everything it takes to purchase your freedom. Remember the price--His only Son--as you participate in Communion.

Rev01ution: Fear of the Lord

Sunday Oct 11, 2015
Many of us, probably most, have a conception of Jesus as this European looking, tall, blue-eyed gentle man who is benevolent to all and walks around holding the hands of children and carrying a lamb in his arms. Certainly no one to be feared; He is too loving to be feared. Throughout Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation, we are told repeatedly that to fear the Lord leads to wisdom (Psalm 111:10).

Rev01ution: From Shame to Humility
Sunday Oct 04, 2015
Sunday Oct 04, 2015
Big Idea: God seeks us out in our shame, and honors us when we humble ourselves.
Scripture: James 4:7-10 "So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for the loyalty is divided between God and the world. Let there be tears for what you have done. Let there be sorrow and deep grief. Let there be sadness instead of laughter, and gloom instead of joy. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor.1. Humble Yourself2. Resist the Devil3. Sin no more4. Grieve5. Rev01ution: Fasting and Feasting
SCRIPTURE: Matthew 4:1-4 (NLT) 1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by the devil. 2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry. 3 During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread.” 4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”
Jeremiah 15:16 (NLT) When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies.
BIG IDEA: When we fast from something, it is important that we also feast on nourishment from God’s Word.
FEASTING ON GOD’S WORD
Reading/Hearing
Meditating
Memorizing
Praying
Singing
ACTION STEPS: Use the 30-day Fasting Guide to help you plan a fast (and a feast on God’s Word) that is both challenging and safe for you, starting October 1. Plug into a small group to help you with planning and support.

Sunday Sep 20, 2015
Sunday Sep 20, 2015
Fasting is ultimately an expression of humility and dependence on God.
SCRIPTURE: Philippians 4:11-13 (NLT) 11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. 13 For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.

SCRIPTURE: Mark 12:29-31 (NLT) 29 Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. 30 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ 31 The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.”
