Nehemiah 8:10 (NLT)  And Nehemiah continued, “Go and celebrate with a feast of rich foods and sweet drinks, and share gifts of food with people who have nothing prepared. This is a sacred day before our Lord. Don’t be dejected and sad, for the joy of the LORD is your strength!”

Advent 2014: Peace

Isaiah 9:6-7 (NLT) 6 For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!

Advent 2014: Hope

Psalm 33:20-22 (NLT)  We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help and our shield.  In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.  Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in you alone.

They worshiped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity—

Generosity was one of the key characteristics of the early church. God wants us to also be marked by generosity that makes us look different from the rest of the world.

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT) 16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17 God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.

1 Corinthians 12:12-13 (NLT) The human body has many parts, but the many parts
make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ. Some of us are Jews, some are
Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body
by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.

Let’s understand that a believer who is not connected to other believers is dismembered.  God intends for us to be devoted to each other, and receiving our direction from Christ, who is the head of the church.
