BIG IDEA: A balanced, peaceful household is characterized by prayer and thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6-7).

ACTION STEP: Renew your commitment to pray for your family from now until Thanksgiving.

 Pray for the specific needs in your family or a family close to you.

 Pray for courage from God to do the good works He has planned for you.

 Confess your tendency to trust your own strength, and thank God for all He has done.

Ephesians 6:1-4 (NLT) 1 Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. 2 “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: 3 If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.” 4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord. 

MYTH: Your child’s approval is important.

MYTH: Children are the center of family life.

MYTH: The best way to keep kids out of trouble is to keep them busy.

BIG IDEA: Healthy families are sustained by their Heavenly Father.

ACTION STEP: Think of something that has distracted you (and your family) from keeping God at the center, and replace it.

Words That Bring Light

James 3:8-9 (NLT) but no one can tame the tongue. It is restless and evil, full of deadly poison. Sometimes it praises our Lord and Father, and sometimes it curses those who have been made in the image of God.

·         James 5:16 (NLT) CONFESS YOUR SINS to each other and PRAY for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.

Deuteronomy 8:10-11 (NLT) 10 When you have eaten your fill, be sure to praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. 11 But that is the time to be careful! Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the Lord your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees that I am giving you today.

Deuteronomy 8 tells us to obey God's commandments. We do this by obeying God with... 

• OUR HEART By loving him more than any relationship, activity, achievement, or possession 

• OUR WILL By committing ourselves completely to him 

• OUR MIND By seeking to know him and his Word, so his principles and values form the foundation of all we think and do 

• OUR BODY By recognizing that our strengths, talents, and sexuality are given to us by God to be used for pleasure and fulfillment according to his rules, not ours 

• OUR FINANCES By deciding that all of the resources we have ultimately come from God, and that we are to be managers of them and not owners 

• OUR FUTURE By deciding to make service to God and man the main purpose of our life's work
