Everyday Wisdom Part I

Friday Aug 17, 2012
Throughout the month of August, we are taking a walk through the book Proverbs by reading a chapter a day. (Message recorded August 5, 2012)
Questions for Reflection and Discussion
- What fears do you have? What fears have you faced and conquered?
- Read Acts 9:31 (NLT) The church then had peace throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria, and it became stronger as the believers lived in the fear of the Lord. And with the encouragement of the Holy Spirit, it also grew in numbers.
- How does the fear of the Lord make people stronger?
- How could fear of the Lord make this church stronger?
- How would your life be different if you had a more accurate understanding of God’s attributes—His deep love, His profound holiness, His perfect justice, and so on?

As your willingness intersects God’s will, and you endure conflicts from all sides, you are transformed. There is no going back to the innocence and ignorance of the past. Are you willing to undergo such a metamorphosis? You must count the cost…and the rewards. The height of conflict
Tuesday Jul 10, 2012
Tuesday Jul 10, 2012
The difference between a hero and a villain has a lot to do with how they approach difficulties. Paul the Apostle sets a great example of an unlikely hero who handles tremendous conflict humbly and faithfully. (Message recorded July 8, 2012) Intro video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ0l_tN6KN0&feature=relmfu Your Life as a Summer Blockbuster Part 2: The Height of Conflict BIG IDEA: When you follow God’s will, be prepared for conflict from all sides. Inside. Outside. Alongside. Questions for Reflection and Discussion What internal conflicts have you encountered before as you followed God’s will? How will you prepare to endure those conflicts in the future? Where do you expect to encounter external conflict? Who might feel threatened by you following God’s will? How will you prepare for those conflicts? Who have you trusted the most on your spiritual journey? How will you endure if God’s will leads them elsewhere?

Link to opening video (The Amazing Spiderman Trailer) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8EATN_L1WDw&feature=relmfu This summer, theaters will be filled with movies that feature unlikely heroes who find themselves in difficult circumstances and still manage to persevere to a happy ending. We like these stories because they resonate with our own stories. What story does God have in mind for you this summer? Key Scripture - Acts 9:1-20 BIG IDEA: Your adventure begins when God's WILL intersects with your WILLINGNESS. Questions for reflection and discussion: What are your favorite adventure stories? Do they have unlikely heroes? What made them unlikely? If God approached you with a difficult mission, what reasons could you give Him that you are an unlikely candidate? Have you turned your will over to God through Christ and experienced a transformation? In what ways are you still resisting God's will in your life? Are you willing to pray about that right now?

Creating and cultivating
Monday Jun 11, 2012
Monday Jun 11, 2012
Today’s culture tells us that manhood is defined by what a man consumes, but God’s plan is for men to be creators and cultivators. (Message recorded June 10, 2012) KEY TEXT: 1 Samuel 2:12 (NLT) Now the sons of Eli were scoundrels who had no respect for the Lord... BIG IDEA: The transition from boy to man is a transition from consuming to creating and cultivating. Questions for Discussion and Reflection What products and services are being marketed to 18-34 year-old males? What are marketers using to appeal to that audience? Why do you think single males 18-34 years old are the least likely people you would find in a church? How can you help build a culture that supports young men in transitioning from consuming to creating and cultivating? What makes the good news of Jesus more attractive than the lure of adolescent consumerism?

What commitments in your life do you need to renew today in order for you to live the legacy God has prepared for you? 5. What commitments are pulling you away from God’s legacy? Is God’s legacy worth the cost of removing those distractions? What are you waiting for?
