Kids don’t always like rules. Teenagers like them even less! Adults realize that good rules are not designed to oppress us, but to support us. In fact, mature people put rules in place for themselves to help them grow and become fruitful--a blessing to the world.
KEY TEXT: John 15:5 (NLT) “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.”
Guidelines for Establishing a Rule of Life*
- It’s ultimately not about you.
- Discern your rule; don’t decide it.
- It’s a living document written in pencil, not chiseled in stone.
- It should reflect the rhythms of your day, week, month and year.
- It should reflect balance of what you prefer and what stretches you.
